Thomas Hammond (athlete)

Thomas Edgar "Tommy" Hammond (18 June 1878 – 18 December 1945) was a British track and field athlete who competed in the 1908 Summer Olympics.
In 1908 he was eliminated in the first round of the 10 mile walk event.
Hammond was educated at Bedford Modern School.〔"School Sport In The Twentieth Century" by PJ King, 1974, Commemorative Edition of The Eagle〕 His professional career was as a stockbroker at the London Stock Exchange.
He was a founder member of the Brotherhood of Centurions (Centurion no.10) and is remembered primarily for his prowess as a long distance race walker. He was born in Woburn, Central Bedfordshire and died in Haywards Heath, West Sussex.〔(Tommy Hammond ). Sports Reference. Retrieved on 2015-01-22.〕
